Aircraft / Aerospace

Polymer Technologies is a technology-oriented and quality focused organization supported by engineering excellence, lean manufacturing principles, and ISO 9001 and AS 9100 certified quality systems.

Our aerospace and aircraft material solutions are designed and developed through research, development, and consultation with customers, focusing on optimizing manufacturing processes with the most effective equipment available. Finally, with production in place, customer requirements are met by customer service and responsiveness that is second-to-none in the industry.

Below you will find aircraft composite application examples with links to the aircraft products page. The applications are just a sampling of the possible areas in which Polymer’s aircraft materials effectively mitigate thermal and acoustical energy concerns.

ECS Ducting

Typical products used for ducting applications are melamine with PEEK and PEKK facings for extra durability to facilitate wrapping around ducts. These aircraft composites are used to reduce condensation and increase the thermal efficacy of the ECS systems (environmental control systems).  Polydamp® Hydrophobic Melamine foams retain their original thickness even when wrapped around ducts and taped, which means the performance of the material is also retained.  In addition, to mitigate breakout noise, high mass fabrics may be used.

Fuselage & Bulkheads

Polydamp® Hydrophobic Melamine foams alone, and with films and/or high mass fabrics, can be used for thermal and acoustical insulation applications. These specific foams and composites have a natural resiliency and resistance to compression set, which allows them to be used within frames and over stringers with little or no loss of thickness. Plus it has the ability to remain in compression between frames. The benefit to using these products is significantly reduced installation costs by minimizing the number of fasteners and retainers.  In addition, composites using the high mass fabrics are used as over-frame blankets to further reduce acoustical transmission.  These same materials and composites can be used for bulkhead applications.

Flooring

Polydamp® non-woven felts both with and without high-mass fabrics can be used for flooring applications.  These can be used to serve two purposes: cushioning and insulation.

Trim Panels

Products used for Trim Panel applications are melamine with and without facings or mass fabrics.  These aircraft composites are applied directly to the outside of trim panels for additional noise attenuation and reduction of vibration or resonance of a panel.
